When I think about Bono, several things run through my mind. For instance…

He’s cool. Lets face it – that’s a fact. Even though he’s old enough to be your Dad – he’s still cool! I mean look at him – those sunglasses for a start (if they’re prescription or not – those yellow tinted shades…he just pulls them off!)

Then, I get deeper – ‘he rocks’ – I’m not gonna say all U2’s songs are immense cos quite frankly, i’ve only ever purchased the Best Of’s, but still – Him and ‘the edge’, – they make noise sound good! There’s something about music that moves the soul…and some of his stuff has most definatley connected with me on a spiritual level.

I think of the fact that if you read the quotes on the back of Eugene Peterson’s ‘The message’; up pops his name.

Then, I think of his passion for justice – making poverty history, live aid and the G8 concert. It’s inspiring. But this is what inspires me most of all –

 Despite all the success and riches he’s attained that life has to offer, he’s still human and he’s moved to his knees by the grace of God. Bono says…

“It’s a mind-blowing concept that the God who created the universe might be looking for company, a real relationship with people, but the thing that keeps me on my knees is the difference between Grace and Karma.”

This moves me.

And this is how i understand it;

…Karma’s what we deserve

…Grace is what we don’t, but what God (lovingly and willingly) gives us anyway.
